I/O Bus

This cheap 5 way scart Splitter can also be used for our general I/O bus system.
Scart cables and a 5 way splitter like the one above can be bought from the local pound shop,
To use a board like this in a general purpose bus system, it needs to just link all the connectors pin for pin without doing anything special with any of the lines.
Fortunately, this is what the ones available in the local pound shop do. Both the splitter and the cables simply bus all of the connections - can’t be good for audio/video signals, but its fine for connecting low speed projects to a processor i/o and power pins.

1/2 a Scart cable links an I2C memory board to the Processor
Unfortunately, although these mass produced cables use coloured wires, there are more pins than colours, so the only way to guarantee getting the right connection is to remove the cables outer insulation in sections - keeping a reasonably long piece intact and then threading the required wires back throught it whilst making connections to the header or project board at the other end.
For connections involving a handful of i/o and power, this is not too much of a problem, when it comes to the processor cable (all the wires), it will not be possible to re-thread the wires back through a piece of the original insulation.
